My Cooking Setup Hiking
Monzanoman and I are cooking up soup for lunch on our way up to Manzano Peak in the Manzano Mountains. This video demonstrates the use of a Trangia alcohol stove in a high elevation backpacking type enviroment. I usually just use my snow peak giga power stove, which performs just fine in a high elevation enviroment, but I wanted to test the Trangia alcohol stove to see how well they do.. turns out they work just fine! My cook kit is customized but is all made by snow peak except the folding fork and spoon. Fuel used: methyl alcohol. “HEET” is the brand name. Its in the YELLOW container (not the red container) in the automotive section at walmart or other stores. You can also use denatured alcohol which works the best but not AS EASY to find… REI is the only place I can find it here locally. I used my Kodak Easyshare M1093 IS 720p HD camera to capture this footage. Video shot May 8, 2009 outside of Manzano, New Mexico.
