Nice vid.? But as a survivalest I would never kill a tarp like that, I have never used the pit method, but I have seen it done many times, I might use a piece of metal or just alot of plants but not my tarp.
I appreciate the technique and have steamed/cooked fish in a similar fashion but seeing as this would take such a long while to prepare and set up it isn’t worth it in terms of energy and time spent unless you are planning to stay in the same area for a prolonged periode of time, then escpescially so for a single person.
And I have to agree with wewe down here, I deffinately wouldn’t ruin? my tarp for a meal, leaves, sticks and dirt is quite addequate.
Great video everyone. Looked like some good fun and some good food. I want to give this? a try.
Good video? bro!
i bet that was some good eating
i gotta try this when i get? the chance
thanks for the video
Good music, great video, greatergoodest info!? Thanks, Tim ;o)
Very cool method to cook? Caleb. Now I’m hungry lol Thanks
Nate
@wewexteriors The tarp was on her last legs, so we figured “heck with it, time to? go out with a bang”.
@88Kamikaze69 Could not agree more on energy conservation. However the point to the video showed? a group working together to make a great meal. Communities world wide have used steam pits in not just prolonged stays in one site, but even overnighters. The value of such a cooking technique relies on more than a couple of people. The optimum number being 5 or more. Ten for a large meal. This technique has been used with complete success on large game such as elk and bear. Thanks for watching!
@OzaawaaMigiziNini
Ah yes, with large game like elk and bear it makes a whole lot more sense, I never hunt that big game myself so I didn’t think about that.
Btw, I dont know if you have already done a video on this but the scaled down one man version using coals, leaves, dirt and sticks rather? than rocks for cooking fish is worth showing in a video, I’d do it myself if I ever got around to actually filming anything.
Great vid, breakfast is the best time to start? thinking about dinner. Thanks for showing us this technique.
rocks goes on the bottom, then you make layers with large leaves and fill them with food packages also made from leaves, while you do this you have to put a stick vertically in the pit. Once you fill the pit with the food, remove the stick and pour water through the hole so it creates steam. then you seal it until no more steam seeps through. First put rocks, then meat, then? vegetables. wrap the food with leaves so you don’t get any dirt on it.
@CdnLifeguard71
